Want to know what cables to use to hook up to your TV? or what games are available at launch? or what accessories to get?

Paying too much for PC Games in Oz?
Posted in Games on January 24, 2006 by Shane WilliamsonAlienware in the US has launched a site to purchase full PC games that can be downloaded direct from their site.
The service uses an Alienware download manager to pull down the multiple Gigabyte downloads, so broadband subscribers need only apply.
For Australian purchasers this is a bonus as the price is just over 15% cheaper than local retail.
The games are obviously changed slightly to accommodate the Digital Rights Management, as the EULA states the user should not update the games from any other source other than their download site.
It would be interesting to see how long, if at all, before the local Alienware site would do this.
I for one will be looking at this site first before purchasing the next PC game.

Massive Multiplayer Economies
Posted in Games on January 5, 2006 by Shane WilliamsonI’m currently investigating online massively multiplayer gaming economies for some consulting work I’m currently doing and stumbled onto this great blog by Mark Wallace called, Walkerings. The Blog focuses on conversations around MMOs.
Mark wrote an article for an online mag called The Escapist (A visual feast I must say!). Wallace’s article is on how the economies of MMO’s are changing and discusses a recent event on Eve-Online whereby a shift is occurring to the trust/value system of virtual economies versus the old world economy fall back that many of these games fell into in the past.
It’s an interesting observation and is a very important aspect in designing these virtual economy systems, what ever form they may take.
