This research report was prepared for the International Workshop on Wireless Communication Policies and Prospects: A Global Perspective, held at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, October 8th and 9th 2004.
 
The 300+ page document is quite comprehensive and has a global perspective on the use of the mobile phone. It covers details on the major mobile geographies of the planet and the social impacts effecting the use of these types of communication.
 
Understanding how mobile communications effect your local geography is only part of the equation. Observing how we are fast approaching a global interactive social & communication environment is the other part.
 
This 300 odd page piece of research is a great doorway to our world’s mobile networks and is worth the read.

Great Scoble Channel 9 interview with Steve Ballmer

Robert Scoble has put up a great Channel 9 interview with Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer. The video goes for just over 9 minutes and is highly worth watching to hear the big man’s reponses to Scoble’s questions.
 

London Blasts – Citizen Journalism kicks in…

It’s just over three hours past the time of the initial explosions that rocked London today and amazing scenes are starting to appear on sites like Flickr of photos like these from the cowardly attacks on London public transport.
 
The terrorists who committed these crimes are so completely lost in their extremist world that they attack on Day 1 of the G8 Summit on which world leaders are discussing issues such as global warming &  poverty/hunger in Africa.
 
I have family in London whom we haven’t heard from yet, so our thoughts are with them at this time.

Vlogging away @ NetVideo

Tim Parsons, who is now a happy camper over at Profero Sydney, notified me of a great Vlogging site called NetVideo that includes a diverse range of video formats depending on how you want to watch the Vlogs.
 
From their site:

NetVideo covers interviews on topics around government, media, games & technology.

SmartMobs has this link to a company called Scoopt, who peddles your mobile photo wares to the press. Anything that get’s syndicated, will get you paid 50% of what they receive for it!

Counting eyeballs & eardrums misses the point, it’s a human.

Companies that count their customers as body parts have lost them. Whenever I hear people at work refer to the number of eyeballs that do this or, the number of walk-ins who do that, I remind them that attached to these appendages are living breathing humans who think.
 
Humans will make or break a company, by firstly using their freedom of choice to choose the company’s product or service. Secondly, by conversing about their experience of the product/service with other humans. As long as the company product/service is satisfying the customer’s need everything is peachy, but if the customer is dissatisfied…
 
Those companies today that fail to capture that “conversation” and utilise its powerful marketing intelligence, will not be around to see business tomorrow.
 
I was recently in a meeting with financial service company where the owner of the business told me that the most important thing to the company was their shareholders and staff. As long as they were happy, he believed he would have satisfied customers. My comment to that was, no company anywhere would be in business without its customers.
 
So, seeing this article in the NYTimes about Podcasting and how they will be counting eardrums next, pretty much shows the same Old World Media views that technologies such as Blogging and Podcasting will eventually erode away into oblivion.
