American’s love – hate relationship with mobile phones.

March 16, 2005

Cellular-News has an interesting article about the relationship American’s are having with their mobile devices. Like any relationship this has its ups and downs, but 42% want laws that prevent people using mobile devices in museums, movies & restaurants. Bring it on!

Some other tid bits:

  • 80% said the cell phone made their lives "easier"
  • Only 80% agree phones are a major safety hazard when used whilst driving (it is still legal in the majority of US states to use the mobile whilst driving).
  • 64% of those surveyed were somewhat or very concerned that using a cell phone made them vulnerable to the theft of Social Security, bank account and other personal identification numbers!?!?!?
  • 49% of those who do not own any technology (cell phones, computers, PDAs, VCRs, digital video players and recorders, and Internet access at home) say it is better to stay away from buying new technology all together.

The survey was conducted by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research.
