Scott Adams – God’s Debris

November 20, 2005
Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert cartoons, has an interesting book duo that is pretty much about God, The Universe, Life and Everything. The first of which is available free as an e-book.

The first part of the pair titled "God’s Debris" is a FREE downloadable e-book that is a great piece of fiction with some excellent thought provoking themes. This is one of those rare occurrences that will have people debating it for some time.

The book discusses many topics of vast debate and within the simple context of a conversation the reader is blindsided into a well articulated view of how things are or aren’t.

This was a great Sunday afternoon read. I’ll definitely be buying the hard cover versions of these books for the home library.

Wired article on “Real Story of the Rogue Rootkit”

November 20, 2005
I4U News has a pointer to this Wired article about the Sony Rootkit DRM debacle. The article goes into quite a lot of facts that build up a discussion around the supposed collusion of SOMY BMG & Anti-virus companies.

This Wired article is a great read for those who want to understand the whole story around the technology in question and the events that have transpired because of its use.

Having been a victim of stupid CD copyright systems in the past, what Sony has done seems to be flat out criminal. I therefore will be supporting the boycott against Sony, by not purchasing any of their CDs, electronic equipment or peripherals.

Spitzer Telescope keeps producing amazing visions of our Universe

November 13, 2005
The Spitzer Space Telescope’s latest image captures some amazing detail of a dust cloud in the Cassiopeia constellation that is around 7000 light years way from earth.

There’s even a podcast interview about the image here

NB: Spitzer’s website is well constructed and their use of the latest technologies such as RSS feeds and podcasts is to be highly commended.

Forty Faces – Great idea

I really like clever ideas to visualise information in a different way.

Philipp Lenssen has setup Forty Faces whereby you can see the face of the Blogger on his site when they post.

Brings a whole new twist to personalising the web

US Marines in Iraq using silly string to find trip wires

November 11, 2005
Seems like a clever US Marine worked out a way to check for booby trap wires whilst searching in dark rooms in Iraq. Cockeyed has this story of the former US Marine that sent an e-mail wanting to order some silly string for his brother who is currently in Iraq.

Great story!

I found this on Lifehacker.

ReelBlogs Will Produce Short-form Video Content for the Internet and New Video iPod
New Haven, CT – 8 November, 2005 – ReelBlogs announced today the launch of the first video blog network on the Internet. Blogs on the ReelBlogs network will produce short-form video content made specifically for Internet and video podcasting audiences.
They only have one video Blog currently live, but it is well done. BathTubYoga is a complete misnomer as there is no yoga and no bathtub.. I’m going to be following the series very closely as it is very well done.
